Creating A Safe Space For Honest Conversations

With so much talk about diversity and inclusion, I want to have discussions about what is means to create a safe space for honest conversations. Many of us are living in fundamentally different realities, with unique cultural influences, socioeconomic backgrounds, and methods of communication. Even words don’t mean the same things across different cultural narratives, and what is offensive in one community is not in another community. At every turn in life right now we’re running the risk of offending or being offended for a simple lack of awareness.

To navigate this complexity as designers, leaders, creators and facilitators, there are a few simple strategies that we can employ to develop a new awareness alongside new methods of engagement that foster trust, reciprocal engagement, and open communication among your teams, client projects, and community engagements.

I want to invite you into a safe space to discuss how to create safe spaces. This series will will include a first look into some of my favorites strategies to engage empathy and foster inclusivity.

This 1-Hr Lunch N Learn Ses was created for anyone working in diverse environments who still struggle with what to say, how to say it, or how to elevate all the voices in the room. By now we’ve all received the social message that we need to do better to create inclusive environments where our best ideas can flourish, but many are still struggling with what they mean in reality. This quick session can resolve some of that confusion.
