Liberation

Translating the tragedy of the subversive industry of human trafficking into an inspiring work of art was no easy task. I didn’t know at first how to depict this communication as anything other than despair, simply because this is how I feel when faced with the statistics of this atrocity. But organizations like Street Grace are on the front lines, changing legislation, and creating space for healing and rescue to occur. So I explored the idea of being pulled from darkness into light, originally cowered in the corner and being elevated by grace into a dance of color and freedom.

The process for this piece was complicated, requiring a photo session with a model, digital illustration, and a separate pass on the press for each color, so 500 hand-fed passes through the press to create the overlay effects. 12x18 print
